Anniversary Day!

Last week, as is the same every year I celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day. Not because I am Irish, but because it is my anniversary day, the day I left my “normal” job, going out into the big wide world, with no real idea what I was going to do for income!

In those days, I used to work Monday to Friday and teach Ballroom & Latin American dancing on a couple of evenings during the week. I was pondering whether I could make a living out of just teaching dancing, when one evening, one of my students said to me “Simon, couldn’t you go into my dads care home, and dance with some of the residents?“ The following week, she arranged a meeting for me with the activity manager at the home and I went down to meet her. And that is how the ball got rolling! After that first session, I realised how much I enjoyed it and I could see how much of a benefit it was to the residents! So I started to get in touch with some of the care homes.

I am still building the business up, particularly after two years of Covid, but it is definitely going in the right direction now and I have managed to make a business out of it!

Now that I am starting to get a little bit of a name for myself in the Carehomes, I think it is time for the next stage in my business plan, which is to take it online. I am going to create a course focusing on dancing/teaching and the training needed to go into the carehomes to dance with the residents. Hopefully this will not only help my bank balance, it will be of a great benefit to the residents of carehomes across the country and maybe further afield. My plan is to get Ballroom dancing out there to as many people as possible. Watch this space!!
